'Campaign for a Decent public Health Service' Supporting the Monaghan Community Alliance
----------------------------------
Monaghan Community Alliance is holding a monster rally on May 10th in Monaghan Town. Confirmed speakers include Joe Higgins, Patricia McKenna, James O'Reilly and Caoimhghin O'Caolain.
It is vitally important that this rally be supported by as many individuals and groups as possible. As OECD has made clear, Monaghan is the pilot for the rest of the country, a blueprint not only for what to close, but how to do it.
And it is being done against the background of appalling shortfalls in community care and of deepening cuts to hospital services. Despite the shortfall in GPs in the region, despite the overcrowding in Cavan and Drogheda Hospitals, despite the threat to patient safety, HSE is ploughing on relentlessly with its Decimation Programme.
If Monaghan General Hospital closes, the rest will swiftly follow.
OECD has made it clear that in six years time, the Government's 'refom' programme will have been implemented.
This is a plan that, according to PA Consulting, will see nearly 5 000 public patient beds stripped out of the public hospital system. As in England, hundreds of private for profit companies will fill the gaps in the public services.
By 2014, around 40 acute public hospitals around the country will have closed––unless people unite to resist these closures.
This is the plan for towns and communities across Ireland.
Now is the time to support the Monaghan community. This is a national issue. If the Government wins in Monaghan, they will press on, without delay, closing the other 39 hospitals in the rest of the country. This is the final battle, the Alliance believes.
Please sent this appeal to your mailing list. Please let others know, who may not have an Internet connection, so that they, too, can lend their support. And please try to be there on the day, if at all possible.
